"compatible" (i.e., generic) Laser Printer toner cartridges

What has been your experience with "generic" replacement toner cartridges for laser printers? There is great appeal to the price of the compatible verses the name brand. Is this a case of "you get what you pay for?" Hypothetically, lets consider a Samsung SCX-4100 laser printer.

I have had mixed results with the 'generics', but have had very good results with re-manufactured cartridges. We used to purchase ours through the local Cartridge World for about 60% of retail and had very good luck with them.
